Posted May 04, 2019 09:50:09 A 4-month-old baby girl died Saturday night after being left in a backyard in Chicago, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.
The infant, who was being cared for by her grandparents, was found about 2:15 a.m. by a passerby in the 1400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to the coroner’s office.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other details about the child or the circumstances surrounding her death were immediately released.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Chicago has seen a spike in infant deaths in recent years.
A baby was found dead last month in the Englewood neighborhood.
That child, whose name was withheld, was reported missing May 11 and later found dead in a vacant lot nearby.
The child had been in the care of his mother for about a week.
