A man has been arrested in the theft of an estimated 100-200 turtle shells from the Hamster Pet Trading House in Kannur, the police said on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Aniruddh Thakur, 45, has been booked under Sections 302 (kidnapping), 498 (kidnicapping) of the Indian Penal Code, and is yet to be produced before a magistrate.
The police said that they recovered the shells from an abandoned vehicle near the Kannu Road junction.
Thakus father, Nandanthir, has filed a complaint against the police for “negligent handling of the case”.
The police have also asked for additional police personnel to ensure the safety of the residents of the village.
Thaks arrest came a day after the police arrested a man for allegedly stealing from a hamster farm.
